You’re Beautiful Taiwanese Version!

Update: you can read my recaps here

After the hit success of the korean drama You’re Beautiful (Starring Jang Geun Suk, Park Shin Hye, Lee Hong Ki and Jung Yong Hwa) and Japan’s equally popular adaptation “Ikemen Desu Ne”, Taiwan is finally airing their own adaptation titled…wait for it…Fabulous Boys. I’ll be honest, the name leaves a lot to be desired – maybe because it evokes a Boys of Flowers/Flower Boy concept?

The Taiwanese adaptation stars Jiro Wang as Huang Tai Qing (Hwang Tae Kyung), Su Li Wen as Gao Mei Nan/Mei Nu (Go Min Nam/Min Niu), Evan Yo as Jeremy, and Huang Ren De as Jiang Xin Yu (Shin Wu). It’s set to air May 12th, 2013, so in a little under two weeks! I’ll be recapping it once it starts – and if it’s anything like it’s predecessors it’s bound to be great!

p.s Any thoughts on how they’re going to translate Pig-Rabbit? Zhu-Tu (豬-兔)doesn’t quite have the same ring to it…

  1. Omgosh, anticipating soo much! 🙂 Loved the original, hopefully the Taiwanese version will be just as special, if not better. I was actually surprised that there was a positive comment towards Fabulous Boys, because I’ve mostly been reading negative comments about it. Oh well, hope it turns out great.
P.S. How funny, i thought about the pig rabbit thing just then too…..

    1. Haha I figured I’d give it a clean slate – I don’t expect it to be better than You’re Beautiful (that’s a really, really, really high bar) but still an enjoyable, entertaining watch.

Do you recap dramas as well?

      1. Haha, i think my optimistic view is from my biasness towards Jiro. 😛 And i know that remakes are never as good as the original….. 😦 And, no, i don’t blog. I just like to read blogs about dramas and the opinions that other people have.

      2. Jiro = amazing 🙂

Ahhh I see. Well I hope you enjoy my blog! Do you have a My Drama List account? If not you should make one and friend me 🙂

  2. I really hope that the Taiwanese cast can make the characters their own as the Japanese cast did. Jiro is really good at comedy, but I love him when he gets to showcase his more serious bad*ss side the most. He’s good at playing the arrogant star character, so I’m anticipating seeing what he’ll be doing. I’ll definitely be stopping back to read your recaps! I was thinking about recapping this since I did do the Japanese version, but since you’ll be doing it, I think I’ll slack off as I have quite a lot of dramas under my belt right now.

  3. Wait wait wait?! The Taiwanese version starts this week!? Actually, yesterday? So awesome, i’ve been waiting for it. Although, Jiro Wang is too old to be playing the Tae Kyung character. I mean, i love him, but he’s in his 30’s. And Tae Kyung is the lead singer of an idol group…

    1. Yup! I’m actually working on the recap right now – it should be posted later today! 🙂

I know :/ As funny as Jiro is, I think he’s starting to push the limits of playing a young character.
