Day 3: Your first Korean Drama?

Almost PPPPPPAAAAARADIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSSSEEEE. I know know anyone who could forget that song from, you guessed it, Boys Over Flowers. I started this 2009 drama because it’s an adaptation of Meteor Garden, the first drama that got me sucked into drama-land.

I’m not going to lie, this drama went on, and on, and on. But overall it was a fun watch, and was definitely one of the flashiest, shiniest dramas I have watched. It also introduced me to the four lovely, lovely boys below. Kim Bum and Lee Mino Ho are the best! It also introduced me to Goo Hye Sun, who I found a bit fake, but bearable.

The best couple of the series however, has to be these two cuties below! Kim So Eun and Kim Bum were the cutest couple, and the only reason I tuned in during the later part of the drama. Geum Jandi and Goo Jun Pyo could take their misunderstandings/stubborn pride somewhere else, I didn’t care for it.

  1. LOL.Ah, I was chuckling like crazy with the opening. Who could forget that song or the awesome OST in general? I watched this drama in 3 stages. The first where I was anxiously awaiting new episodes and was totally in love. The second where I was still in love, but had put off watching episodes so that I needed to rewatch a few to figure out where I left off. The third was when the romance and shine were gone and I realized this drama could have been a lot shorter with a better devised ending….but it does hold a special place thanks to being part of that magical HanDan that started it all 😛

    1. Lol not going to lie Hana Yori Dango had THE most memorable OST for me of all dramas I have watched. Possibly because it was reinforced every other episode…’s almost like a commercial jingle haha.

  2. It should have been half the episodes, and then it would have been good. They totally killed it by having it so long. The same thing happened with Goong. If that had been 16 episodes, it would have been a fantastic drama. But by the time it finished, they’d repeated everything so many times that i just wanted it to end!

Kim So Eun and Kim Bum were my favourite thing about Boys Over Flowers as well, they were very sweet. But whenever I think about this, I always remember the comments the girls at Dramabeans have made about it. So i just think about Kim Bum and the saxophone, or Jan Di’s penchant for drowning even though she’s a strong swimmer. Makes me chuckle.

    1. Agreed! You can only repeat a misunderstanding or have someone be a noble idiot so many times (aka, once please)! What did the girls over at Dramabeans say about it? Now I’m going to dig through their recaps lol…But yeah BOF made me laugh during many of their “serious” moments. 🙂

      1. The Dramabeans girls recently did an audio commentary on the first episode of BOF. It was basically an hour of criticisms, it was hilarious.

  3. This was the second drama I watched and I really liked it, but I mostly appreciate it because it introduced me to Lee Min Ho which then introduced me to a bunch of other great dramas. But I agree with you’re favorite couple! I was rooting for them the whole time, I wish they gave them more screen time.

    1. Agreed, watching BOF (and subsequently following Lee Min Ho) allowed me to find City Hunter and Personal Taste! BOF did a follow up of the four boys, but you never actually got to see Kim Bum and Kim So Eun get together, so it was a bit of a let down. 😦
