Hey Guys! 🙂 I’ve decided to recap We Got Married Global (WGM-Global for short) after watching the first season and loving the pairings! Plus…this is the second year that one of the wives has been Taiwanese! I wonder who it is…
We open to see a cruise ship crossing a river, heading towards an island. There are bits of ice floating around, so it must be very cold for our couple. Who should be standing on the prow of the ship but….
Kim Heechul! For those of you who don’t know him, he’s a member of the famous kpop group Super Junior. He’s since gone on to become a popular MC and radio show host when not promoting with the group, and is known for his outgoing, loud, and funny personality as well as his love of pink and wigs.
After docking at the island, Heechul is given a box with a mission card and a cell phone. His mission? To find his wife as quickly as possible!
And who should be waiting for him but….Puff Guo! Some of you may recognize her from Just You with Aaron Yan or her cpop group Dreamgirls. She’s recently experienced a wave of popularity because of the drama (she and Aaron did have really cute chemistry), and I guess it made her a good candidate for WGM.
The island looks pretty straightforward (at least from the arial view), so hopefully Heechul can find her quickly!
Heechul nervously calls Puff, still unaware of who she is. He opens with a “Where are you baby”, and Puff is adorably embarassed. She tells him in Chinese that she’s by a river, and he replies “hao hao” (good good) without actually understanding. Heechul heads over to the island map before realizing that he doesn’t actually know where she is…
This prompts a second phone call, but the two don’t really understand each other – Puff describes what she’s wearing and Heechul wonders why she’s talking about milk. A third phone call is in order, and this time Puff uses English to explain that she’s by a big snowman.
Heechul remembers passing a snowman on his way in, and returns to the front entrance where there is an adorable snowman couple. Unfortunately…this isn’t the right snowman.
Poor Heechul wanders around the island, randomly shouting out “Wifey! Where are you!”. He ends up calling Puff once more, and this time she offers to send him a photo. He interprets it as “Bbo bbo” (kiss in korean), and when Puff tries to clarify by saying “picture”, he wonders astonished if she wants a kiss photo. Heh 😛
Luckily, he stumbles across a kiss bridge…which just so happens to be where Puff is waiting! Heechul decides to sneak up on her, and slowly sticks his head next to her to surprise her. They’re adorably awkward – Heechul gives Puff the rose from the mission and tries to read from his Chinese conversation book, but it’s very formal and he asks if her work was successful haha.
The two relocate to a tea shop/art gallery, and bond over their mutual like for green tea. To help them communicate, they use a drawing pad to explain words. Heechul introduces himself as the “universal superstar” and “pink man”, and tells Puff to call him Oppa. She’s adorably enthusiastic about it, and Heechul seems impressed by her cuteness.
The pair settle on names for each other – “Cherry Oppa” for Heechul, and “Xuefu” for Puff (her Chinese name). Heechul lays on the cheese by kissing Puff’s hand, and she looks surprised, but happy. Puff asks Heechul if he likes to bike, and through a series of pantomime gestures, the two decide to go rent a bike to ride around the island.
Unfortunately, due to the cold weather the bike shop isn’t open. Heechul subtly makes fun of Puff bowing all the time by adding extra bows when they talk to the bike shop employee (who looks confused HA). The two decide to take a walk instead, taking photos in the tree grove.
Afterwards, they head to a pottery shop where they decide to paint cups. Heechul decides to paint Puff on his cup, and tells her to pain himself. Puff looks understandably helpless, but the two end up with some cute cups for each other. While painting, Heechul is surprised to find that Puff knows Gwiyomi, and asks her if she knows “bbuing bbuing“. When he does it however, Puff looks at him with a “What the heck” face haha.
Once the two have finished their cups, they decide to head back to the ferry. Heechul prepared a gift for Puff while he “went to the restroom”, and gives it to her outside. It’s an adorable owl (they call it cuckoo?) hand warmer pillow, and they decide to share it as they walk. Awwww.
Puff asks for Heechul’s jacket partway along the walk, and he immediately rushes to give it to her, saying that he’s feeling very hot anyways. Puff’s just teasing him, but seems really touched when she gives his jacket back.
Looks like the two had a pretty stellar first date!
After watching Gui Gui and Taecyeon and seeing how well they communicated, I was a little surprised at how difficult it was for Heechul and Puff to communicate (I’d assumed that he’d have experience with Mandarin from Super Junior-M). Either way, this couple is sure to have lots of fun together! 🙂
Note: For now, I’m only planning on recapping Puff/Heechul (and not Key/Arisa).
