Need a last minute costume that isn’t a run of the mill costume shop one? Never fear, I, Redbeanmochi, have scoured the internet for costume ideas from Taiwanese dramas so that you can still be a shining star.
- Ah Jie from Pleasantly Surprised
>>All this costume really requires is a brightly patterned polo shirt (preferably floral), and a contrasting but still brightly coloured pair of burmuda shorts. Bonus points if your shoes match your shirt!
- Lu Tian Xing from Fall In Love With Me
>>Ignoring the fact that this drama went off its rocker towards the end, Lu Tian Xing rocked twice as many looks as any other character in this drama. You can choose to dress as his suave business persona – pressed suit, dress shirt, and shoes – or as his cutesy alter ego – anything with bright colours, leopard print, and random english words. An even better option is to go as both at once. If you dress like that and trick or treat at my house, I’ll give you all my candy.
- A student from the KO-One series
>>You can try the standard uniform of the students, a white v-neck shirt with a black jacket and black pants. Most people will probably assume you’re dressing up as a badass, which really isn’t too far off.
- Chen Xin Yi during her Sticky Note Girl phase from Fated to Love You
>>Given the outrageous population of this drama when in first aired in 2008, and the huge popularity of the 2014 Korean remake, I figured I’d throw a costume from the drama on this list. To dress as her sticky note character – large glasses to make your eyes look bigger, an ill-fitting sweater over a dress shirt (be sure to button it all the way up), a long pencil skirt, and flats. For accessories, keep your hair tied in a bun and throw on as many multi-coloured sticky notes as you can!
- Chen Bao Zhu and Lin Da Lang from Hi! My Sweetheart
>>You guys didn’t think I could make a Halloween costume list without including a couples costume, did you? This is probably one of the most eccentric couples from Taiwanese drama history. For Chen Bao Zhu – a tiny side pony tail, black leather pants, black leather vest, black heels, and any bright pink or black shirt you want. For Lin Da Lang – a mushroom bowl haircut is vitally important, a light pink or white polo shirt, skinny suspenders, pastel coloured shorts, and a stuffed Pink Panther complete the look. If you guys take pictures as a couple, be sure to have Chen Bao Zhu fake punching Lin Da Lang.
- Dao Ming Si from Meteor Garden
>>Classic drama = classic costume, and the cult-hit 2001 drama Meteor Garden is no exception. Spice up your Halloween repertoire by gelling your hair straight up and wearing tight pants that show off your dance moves when the girl you like agrees to go on a date! The key part of this look is the pineapple hair – be sure to invest in a good quality gel or hair mousse so that your hair doesn’t wilt during the night, and be sure to tie a bright red bandana around your forehead to help support it.
- The Pig-Rabbit from Fabulous Boys
>>Admittedly this drama is a remake of the popular korean drama You’re Beautiful, but don’t let that stop you from rocking this costume. Rather than dress up as a cat or a rabbit, try and make the party interesting by dressing up as a pig-rabbit. All this look requires is an all-white outfit of your choice, white bunny ears, and a cute pig’s nose. I’d recommend using an egg carton to make one, but you can also do what Gao Mei Nan did and just push your nose up.
- Yang Xue Wu from Prince of Lan Ling (Lan Ling Wang)
>>Are more historical costumes your cup of tea? Look no further than Lan Ling Wang. This gorgeously shot drama features some beautiful costumes and actors. How to achieve this look? Superior sewing skills, or a friend who owes you a lot of favours and sews well.
- The Chicken from Skip! Beat
>>Want to stay warm this Halloween? Try dressing up as the Chicken Mascot from Skip! Beat. To get this look, build yourself a chicken frame out of cardboard or chicken wire, and cover it in yellow felt. It’s sure to land you the hot senior actor in your company!
- Every second lead from any drama ever
>>This is probably the trickiest look of this list, but I believe that you can do it with the right preparation. Step 1: wear whatever you want. Step 2: Find someone you find attractive. Step 3. Follow them around, protecting them from far away or being their best friend to cry on Step 4. Gain a loyal following of drama fans who root for you even though they know you will never get your true love.
